Anielka García: Imprisoned for Posting Image of T-shirts on Social Networks
During the commemoration of Holy Week in Nicaragua the Ortega-Murillo regime unleashed another hunt for people who are opponents or perceived as such, capturing more than 30 people. Among them was the young Anielka Garcia, originally from Chichigalpa, Chinandega, mother of two minor children.
The media reported that the regime decided to arbitrarily detain Anielka just for posting on her social networks photos of a t-shirt alluding to the civic protests of April 2018.
She is an entrepreneur who runs a small business of screen printing, cards, and handicrafts.
In the video posted on the social network Tik Tok on April 2, her children appeared modeling T-shirts with the music of Nicaragua, Nicaraguita. Two days later, the police took her into custody and closed her small business.
The shirts reflected nothing but the word “Nicaragua”, yet Anielka was arrested and to this day remains unjustly imprisoned.
On August 23rd, 2023, Judge Yahoska Tapia, condemned Anielka to 8 years in prison; 5 for the false crime of conspiracy and 3 for the, also false, crime of spreading false news, in addition to disqualifying her from running for any public office in the country.
Among the anomalies of due process that occurred in her case is that she found out about her trial through a video call while she was in La Esperanza prison and her lawyer was in the Managua courts.
Anielka Garcia has committed no crime.
Freedom for Anielka Garcia!
We demand of the Ortega-Murillo regime: NicasLibresya!
