Lesther Solís: His House was Marked by the CPC Before he as Imprisoned

Lesther Solís, 38 years old, had already lived in exile from 2012 to 2016 due to the persecution and aggressions against the youth group, REJUDIN (Youth Resistance for National Dignity), from Sandinista Youth, supporters of the Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo regime.

He returned to Nicaragua in 2016, and since then he continued his activism work through social media, event in 2018, when the sociopolitical crisis broke out.

On August 2, 2023, dozens of police officials broke in, in a violent manner, to his house to capture him, without him committing any crime. Human rights bodies reported that no search or arrest warrant was presented.

According to information provided, Lesther was capture because he was under surveillance of the CPC (Citizens Power Councils), in charge of keeping the regime police informed of the movements and actions of any person that might be seen as an opponent in Nicaragua.

After his capture, his family denounced in fronts of bodies on the defense of human rights that his house was marked by the CPC and after that, the police showed up to detain him.

When he was arrested, he spent three days in Police District III, and then was held in the Judicial Assistance cells, known as El Chipote, where he was not allowed to see his relatives for months and, additionally suffered different kinds of torture. After, he was transferred to the Modelo prison.

As with other people who are arbitrarily detained, his family did not hear from him until a few days later, the news circulated that August 7, a secret preliminary hearing had been done, without the presence of a defense lawyer where he was accused of conspiracy to undermine national integrity and spread of false news.

The trial was done in La Modelo prison and the sentence was read on October 3rd to condemn him to 13 years in prison.

Lesther Solís has not committed any crimes. Denouncing the situation in Nicaragua is not a crime and he should be released immediately.
