What do we do?

We create awareness about the importance of demanding the release of political prisoners in Nicaragua. We denounce the serious human rights violations of which they are being victims are people imprisoned for political reasons in Nicaragua. We promote the application of the guidelines provided by the International Law of Human Rights for determining who is a political prisoner and demanding the corresponding state responsibility. We demand the release of all political prisoners in Nicaragua.

Campaign's goal

Achieve the release of political prisoners through communication actions on digital platforms and greater advocacy so that the State of Nicaragua proceeds to release them as it has ordered the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in the Provisional Measures granted and recommended OHCHR, the IACHR, the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and United Nations Special Procedures.

The Institute on Race, Equality and Human Rights (Race and Equality) works to promote and defend the human rights and racial and ethnic equality of Afro-descendant and indigenous communities – a unique approach among international human rights organizations. We work with a wide range of organizations that combat discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression in Latin America.

In Nicaragua, Race and Equality strengthens local counterparts to use the Inter-American System and the Universal Human Rights System, through technical assistance that provides tools for the documentation of human rights violations, and thus the optimal preparation of reports before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the Special Procedures, including the different Committees that monitor the International Conventions signed by Nicaragua and the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).
